Skyros is the largest of the Sporades islands.

To travel to Skyros from Athens, one can use the combination of car/bus and ferry or the direct flight from Athens. The ferry boats depart from the port of Kymi in Evia. To Kymi, one can reach either by car or KTEL bus.
Here is the website of Skyros Shipping Co. You can find timetable, ticket price, and the agents' phone numbers.
If you would like to book a ticket, you can call the agent in Kymi Port and reserve. You do not need to pay in advance.

If you travel from Athens to Kymi by car, you'd better expect to spend 1 hour from Athens to Halkida and 2 hours to Halkida to Kymi. The ferry brings you to the island in 1 hour and 40 min., but you shall be requested by the ferry company to be present at the port about 1 hour before the departure. If it is not in the highest season, it is not necessary to be at the port 1 hour before, but you'd better be there at least 20 min in advance.

At the port of Kymi there are several tavernas and cafeterias where you can kill time before the boarding.

There is no canteen or restaurant in the ferry, but there are bars where you can buy snacks and drinks (prices were quite normal when we travelled in 2012).

The boat arrives at Linariá. From Linariá to Chora (also called Skyros), you need to take bus or taxi, if you do not have your own transportation. There are a few pensions/ rooms in Linariá.
